The Itamar Erez trio includes Itamar Erez (Piano & Guitar), Francois Houle (clarinet) & Hamin Honari (percussion), who are all invaluable and unique contributors to the Canadian and International world & jazz music scene. Weaving together a complex array of sonorities, influences and styles, they turn their empathic playing into a kaleidoscopic, virtuosic, and infectiously uplifting music.

Itamar's music holds a depth and sensitivity that touches listeners deeply. It blends the delicateness of Middle Eastern music, the freedom found in jazz and the passion of flamenco, creating a unique sound all his own. Itamar Erez is an internationally renowned composer and guitarist who has shared the stage with such musicians as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Tomatito, Avishai Cohen, Jean-Louis Matinier, Zohar Fresco, and others.

Persian Tombak virtuoso Hamin Honari has toured the world with the legendary Dastan Ensemble, one of Iran's most well-known Persian classical music ensembles.

François Houle has been called “a spectacularly versatile clarinetist who appears to have no limitations stylistically or sonically” by the LA Times.

Special debut tour on Vancouver Island

This ensemble features Itamar Erez on Guitar & Piano, Francois Houle on Clarinet and Hamin Honari on hand percussion. These musicians recently debuted at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and are continuing on their musical path and performing in Duncan, Victoria and Port alberni, BC. The trio will be introducing exciting new material from Erez’s new album (to be released in 2019) as well as new arrangements of earlier pieces.
Itamar Erez, is a well-known Israeli-Canadian guitarist and pianist. His music is a unique blend of Jazz, Middle Eastern, and Classical music. Francois Houle has been described by the LA Times as “a spectacularly versatile clarinetist who appears to have no limitations stylistically or sonically is a master performer and composer of many styles of music.”He is one of Canada’s foremost clarinetists and has been working with Itamar to create new material which is suitable for this ensemble. Hamin Honari will be adding his unique style of Iranian percussion which goes beyond the traditional sounds of Persian music and blends beautifully in this intermingling of musical styles.

Together, these three artist have developed a unique voice in both world and Improvised jazz music. Although it is difficult to categorize this music, it is appropriate to describe it as rich sonic journey for listeners. Audiences can expect to hear extended techniques and harmonic dissonance that relates to freely improvised music while also tonal music which is reflective of a modern world music ensemble.
