Alberni COVID-19 Community Response
Alberni COVID-19 Community Response
The Alberni COVID-19 Community Response consists of five local organizations working together to coordinate food and supplies distribution to Port Alberni families and individuals in need.
We are serving hot meals and handing out supplies EVERYDAY between 11am - 3pm, at the Salvation Army building at 4835 Argyle Street (across from City Hall).
Donations are Welcome

- Bring your donations down to the Salvation Army building and let them know it's for the Alberni COVID-19 Community Response.
We Need Volunteers
- Front Line Workers -- to hand out supplies
- Food Servers -- to dish out food
- Drivers -- to pick up supplies and deliver to shut-in's
- Kitchen Helpers -- to make the food
- Cleaners -- to clean and sanitize
- Training will be provided and social distancing practiced
Please Sign-Up for a Shift
- Each shift is 2-hours long (either 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm)
- 12-14 volunteers for needed for each shift (spread out in different areas)

Mission Statement
We are a local charitable organization providing support for people residing in the Alberni Valley who are in need of kidney dialysis or transplant.

Programs and Activities
- We give $50.00 every Xmas & Easter to each dialysis patient.
- We give $5000.00 to a dialysis patient at time of transplant.
- We give misc. accessories to dialysis patients.
- We give accessories to the dialysis unit which directly benefit patients.
- We give monies for holiday treats such as ice cream, cookies, etc.
- We give $1,500.00 annually to the “Kidney Foundation of Canada” specifically for the children’s dialysis camp.

The Mt. Klitsa Garden Club meets at Echo Centre, 7:00 pm on the first Thursday of the month (except July, August and December). We have approximately 75 members all of whom are interested in gardening in the Alberni Valley. Our meetings are social and educational.

Portal Players Dramatic Society is a volunteer membership-driven group with a board of directors and executive committee, overseeing theatre operations. We are located in Port Alberni, British Columbia, nestled between the mountains and ocean on Vancouver Island.
Portal Players Dramatic Society is a proud member of the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce, Alberni Valley Community Arts Council and Theatre BC.
The Capitol Theatre, as an anchor to the Rotary Arts District, through PPDS, is proud to be a beneficiary of the Rotary Arts District Grant Program.

Portal Players Dramatic Society is the main user of The Capitol Theatre, operating an annual season of three or four productions, plus a variety of additional events such as our improv nights, workshops, general membership meetings, board meetings, rehearsals, auditions, etc.
We plan our season and calendar of events approximately one year in advance. Proposals for your production are reviewed annually in February each year for consideration in the next season.

The Bread of Life Centre
The Bread of Life Centre
"The Bread of Life exists to serve the needs of the poor and the homeless, treating all people with dignity and respect. To encourage people, to help facilitate their social, personal and spiritual growth.”
The Bread of Life was started in 1983. It is a charitable organization whose Board of Directors is comprised primarily of representatives from the Churches in the Alberni Valley.
We provide a light breakfast 8:30am-10:30am and a hot meal 11:30am-Noon 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. We are serving approximately 80 guests each day. Emergency food hampers, personal items, baby supplies, formula, diapers and Ensure/meal supplements supplied when available.
A Health Clinic staffed with VIHA and Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council nurses are held three days a week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday and there is a doctor in house one day a week on most Fridays. Blood screening, seasonal shots, pregnancy tests, examinations are only some of the services provided.
The CornerStones Thrift Store caters to low-income families with exceptional prices and deals on gently used second hand items. It provides free emergency clothing, homeless supplies and baby items when needed.
The Bread of Life Society has no income, no government funding. We receive a grant in aid assistance from the City for garbage and water fees. Our sole source of income is YOU the business’s, local individuals, friends of friends and distant family of the people of the City of Port Alberni. Our income and survival depends on donations.
