A Vancouver-based high energy, rock and roll trio. Their brand of rock is heavily influenced by blues, R&B, pop, and classic soul. Original and Classic Rock, R&B, and Blues. John is a familiar face to many Alberni Valley residents. As the leader of his four-piece rock band, he’s played The Blue Marlin and La Bruschetta at The Italian Hall. He’s looking forward to bringing his band back to Char’s, one of his favorite venues of the many he’s played across Canada and in Europe.

Art Rave Alberni and Char’s Landing present a Benefit for the Arts - July 31st to August 2nd
A mid summer benefit for two of Alberni Valley’s biggest supporters of the local arts scene is coming soon!
Char’s Landing and Art Rave Alberni are pleased to present a Benefit for the Arts, July 31st through August 2nd. This is thanks to the generous sponsorship through artsVest™ British Columbia which is operated by Business for the Arts, the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia, in recognition of the business partnership between Art Rave Alberni and Char’s Landing.
Internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter and performer John Pippus will hold two workshops for songwriters and performers followed by a rock and roll dance party with his high energy trio, all at Char’s Landing.

Art Rave is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating all manner of art locally and regionally.
Char's Landing is a premium venue for Entertainment and Arts in Port Alberni. The artsVest BC project is to facilitate one large Art Rave benefit for the arts in Port Alberni. Char holds many concerts per year and will be a key coordinator in the success of the benefit concert.
This relationship will be a super opportunity to raise money for Art Rave that can be used to further their organization’s mission.

Tue, Jul 31st, 7pm (doors 6), Workshop: Songwriting: Exploring the Vision, Art, and Craft with John Pippus
If you want to WRITE songs, or write BETTER songs, or write DIFFERENTLY from your ’same old’ approach to songwriting, or if you are just CURIOUS to find out what songwriting is all about - this workshop is for YOU!
Together we will explore how to tease out ideas - both musically and lyrically - and how to play with these ideas, combining a “let it flow” approach with strategies for critical assessment, revision, and just getting the damn thing done! As well, tips for successful co-writing will be explored. For beginners to pro’s. Genres: Folk, blues, pop, country, and rock.
About the Instructor: Vancouver-based John Pippus is a singer/songwriter with years of writing, recording, international and national touring behind him. His songs have received airplay on hundreds of radio stations around the world Noted music critic Alan Cross has compared him to Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Cockburn, and Jack Johnson. The Vancouver Provinces’ Tom Harrison calls him “..a refined tunesmith with serious pop hooks.” John tours regularly in The Netherlands, Ontario, and BC.

Wed, Aug 1st, 7pm (doors 6), Workshop: The Art of Performance with John Pippus
(Own the Stage – Amateur Musician’s Open Mic postponed this month)
If you want to up your game when it comes to performing your songs for an audience, this workshop is for YOU. Connecting with your audience, through stories, mixing up a variety of playing styles - no matter the genre or genres, “playing to the room”, and setting the stage to let the magic happen, is all part of delivering a memorable performance.
He will share stories of his performing experiences - both good and bad - and will provide tips and yes, tricks for making your performances memorable. Whether you’re playing a few songs at an open mic, or putting together a full evening for a dance crowd or a listening audience - you are going to learn from someone who has been engaging audiences both in Canada and abroad, for many years.
About the Instructor: John is familiar to Port Alberni audiences, having played at Char’s Landing, La Brushetta, the Blue Marlin, and several house concerts many times over the years He performs solo/acoustic as well as with his rock/blues band.
