Fri, Aug 11th, 8-10pm, Concert – The Half Moon Shine w/Cayley Thomas – Alt/Country

"Pretty Good for a Girl Band" Tour.  The Half Moon Shine is a band of women from Victoria, BC, initially bound together by their love of sweet country harmonies. Since they formed in 2015 as a good old-fashioned all-female country band, it’s been all-hands-on-deck. Each gal is a songwriter in her own right and from the get-go they were delighted to hear and share each other’s songs and flesh them out with luscious four-part harmonies, guitar riffs, and train beats. As the songs tumbled out, the country faded into the background, and their honest sound shifted into the light. Drawing on everything from classic doo-wop, spaghetti western, folk and surf rock, they couldn’t learn the songs as fast as they could write them. Bret Enemark (Carousels, Snoqualmie), Jocelyne Van Horn-Foy (Carousels, Running Water), Julia Knight (Julia and the Spectacles, Aidan Knight), and Tanya Semple (Elder Sister Plum) are the four voices, guitars, bass, drums, and trumpets of this collective. Their live shows have a heavy dose of endearing banter, a juggling act of trading instruments and magically appearing trumpets, and all the sweet harmonies you could ask for. They don’t shy away from some heavy emotions on stage, but their positivity, love, and support for each other shines through. With each live performance, these women welcome you into their worlds of whiskey, adventure, and heartbreak, allowing you to find yourself within the stories they share.

Cayley Thomas is a singer, guitarist and songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta.  Classically trained in voice & theatre, Cayley's credits include a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Alberta. Since graduating in 2013 Cayley has been featured on many of Edmonton’s main stages including the Winspear, the Citadel, the Eva O. Howard and the Hawrelak Park Amphitheater. Cayley was also finalist on the CBC television series ‘Triple Sensation,’ which featured young Canadians who act, sing and dance.  These days Cayley also embraces the world of the singer/songwriter. In 2013 she released a five-song EP 'Ash Mountains,' written after the sudden loss of her brother Alex Thomas-Haug. The album began as a private expression of grief but went on to reach audiences across the country. ‘Ash Mountains’ peaked at #1 on CJSR 88.5 and #3 on CKUA 94.9.  Invitations to the 2013 Edmonton and Canmore Folk Music Festivals continued to pave the way for this ambitious artist. In 2015 she was selected to play at the Winter Lights Festival in Iceland as a part of a cultural exchange between Alberta Music and the Reykjavik Tourism Board. In April 2016 Cayley released her first full length album 'Weird Love.'  Following the release Cayley began an acting contract with The Freewill Shakespeare Company, playing the part of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.  Cayley is currently working to write her third album. She just got back the inaugural Singer/Songwriter Residency at The Banff Centre. You can find her in Toronto, feverishly writing and experimenting with different instrumentation.
