Sat, Jan 23rd 8-10pm, Concert – John Pippus “Too Funky to Quit” solo tour – Folk/Roots, Pop, Blues and More...
Acoustic soul-folk, rough and ready blues, finger picking, open tunings, harmonica and vocals that are real.
From sharing a stage with Jackson Browne to playing to small, but appreciative coffee house audiences, John has lived a life filled with music and well-earned stories. SoundProof Magazine has declared him, "…a folk/roots gem"; The Vancouver Province says he's: "…a refined tunesmith with serious pop hooks". Earshot Magazine says:"He has a gift for making us believe that he's been down the road and around the block, and is still kickin' it.” The Vancouver Sun says: “He lives and breathes his musical muse.” John tours regularly in The Netherlands, Ontario, and around BC.  John is a Club Char favourite and we’re pleased to welcome him solo.

From sharing a stage with Jackson Browne to playing to small, but appreciative coffee house audiences, John has lived a life filled with music and well-earned stories.
SoundProof Magazine has declared him "…a folk/roots gem," the Vancouver Province says he's "…a refined tunesmith with serious pop hooks." Earshot Magazine says, "He has a gift for making us believe that he's been down the road and around the block, and is still kickin' it.”
Favorite venues John has played include: The Bluebird Café (Nashville), Tractor Tavern (Seattle), Vogue Theatre (Vancouver), Canon's Gait (Edinburgh), Bruxelles Bar (Dublin), Newtown Festival (Wellington, New Zealand), The Elmdale Tavern (Ottawa), Char’s Landing (Port Alberni) and Bluebird North with Shari Ulrich (Vancouver). John tours regularly in The Netherlands, Ontario, and around BC.  He is returning to Europe in April 2016. He is currently working on two albums. One is a bluesy, back porch affair. The other is a pop-meets-folk collection of songs he’s performed this past year with his four-piece band.

“Pippus has the kind of vocal timbre that is at once charming and appealing.”
Jeff Monk, Uptown Magazine

Critical Response to "Howl At The Moon"

"Very Highly Recommended" - Eric Peterson, RustZine

"I wish my rating system went higher. Thoroughly Enjoyed and Highly Recommended... My favorite album, so far, for 2013."
- John Vermilyea, Underground Blues Network

"This is the album I’ve been waiting to hear from John Pippus. "Howl At The Moon" takes you on a trip of words, emotion, and sound.
Hang on; it’s a helluva ride."   - Shelley Gummeson, Earshot Magazine

Critical Response to "Wrapped Up In The Blues"
"If John Pippus’ Wrapped Up in the Blues does one thing brilliantly, it’s to fully live up to its name.  The Vancouver bluesman lives and breathes his musical muse."                                              -  Francois Marchand, The Vancouver Sun
"[The album is]... blues based but he takes liberties, occasionally, as in “Walk Away,” sounding like Led Zeppelin rather than a blues purist. Good for Pippus. Like any genre, boundaries have to be pushed otherwise it can choke on its idealism...." read more
-Tom Harrison, The Vancouver Province "[An]... innovative recording bringing to mind all sorts of imagery from John Cale and Lou Reed to Brian Wilson..." read more                  - Bman's Blues Report
