Carly was born in Thailand and raised in Argentina, France, and various parts of the United States and Canada. Along the way she discovered her soul in music, and launched a career that started under the bright lights of Paris, where she played the famous Fête de la Musique when she was just 16 years old. At 17 she moved to New York City, developing her craft and stage presence at open mics and folk clubs in Manhattan’s lower east side. She continued to play and write over the next decade, spending time living and traveling throughout Canada.  Thomas’s writing is honest, introspective, and real. She explores themes of love and life with courage and wit, delivering her guitar-based folk/rock with an understated style that reminds fans of Sarah Harmer, Ani DiFranco, or Holly McNarland. But despite those comparisons, she has a style all her own.

Singer/songwriter Carly Thomas isn’t afraid to expose her heart to help her listeners mend theirs. A self-professed “Third Culture Kid,” she has spent her life on the move, collecting experiences and developing a unique perspective that she shapes beautifully into song. Music has been Thomas’s one constant companion through a life of change. 
Carly was born in Thailand and raised in Argentina, France, and various parts of the United States and Canada. Along the way she discovered her soul in music, and launched a career that started under the bright lights of Paris, where she played the famous Fête de la Musique when she was just 16 years old. At 17 she moved to New York City, developing her craft and stage presence at open mics and folk clubs in Manhattan’s lower east side. Thomas’s writing is honest, introspective, and real. That style has not gone unnoticed.
Her full-length CDs, Distance (recorded in London and produced by Juno winner Dan Brodbeck in 2003), and Up This High (co-produced with Dustin Yates at The Armoury in Vancouver in 2010) have earned critical praise and won her fans from coast to coast. She has toured extensively across Canada as a solo artist, and enjoyed great success in both the Vancouver and London scenes fronting a full band. As an independent artist, she continues to grow, taking a much more active role in producing her records. 
Her new EP, Explode, is the next step in her evolution as a songwriter. Recorded by Michael Marucci at London’s Sonic Zen Studios, the EP shows a new maturity in her lyrics and once again displays her unique talent for writing hooks and melodies that simply work. From the rocking title track to the infectious “Montreal Train Song” and the gorgeous ballad “I’ll Find an Ocean,” Explode is an exciting turning point for a songwriter whose career is definitely on the rise.
Thomas has already enjoyed great success. She has shared the stage with luminaries including Trent Severn, Jenn Grant, Connie Kaldor, Matthew Barber, Ma Petit, and Sarah Smith, with whom she toured Eastern Canada in 2013. In 2014, her song “I Remember You” was featured in suicide prevention documentary sponsored by the Canadian Mental Health Association. In 2015, she won the prestigious Jack Richardson Music Award in the Contemporary Singer/Songwriter category.  
With the new EP out, Carly Thomas is indeed ready to explode. Backed by a great band, she’s on the move again, searching for new inspiration, new experiences, and new stories to tell in her own remarkable way.
