BIO
Growing up all over the Lower Mainland, from Richmond and Delta, to Surrey and Cloverdale, I first remember being drawn to the limelight as a pre-teen. My cousin Danny and I wore out multiple Patsy Cline cassette tapes during their frequent dramatic sing-alongs. "Then one day in 1990 there was a contest for someone to play the lead in the Arts Club's production of A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline. I was so excited, I went out and rented a wig, and did a song that I was sure no one knew, but at that time, I was not yet a very seasoned singer and... did not get the role. Despite the rejection, that audition turned out to be a pivotal moment, it turned the aspiring performer in me down the path of my current profession as a celebrity impersonator, and more specifically in the direction of Vernon BC and this October’s performance.
Patsy was my first inspiration as a singer, and no other music called to me until I heard Judy Garland, then later - in my mid-20s - it was Barbra Streisand.
The next turning point was when I was in musical dinner theatre and was asked to pick a celebrity that I could look and sing like. Patsy was the first one... but most people didn't even know what she looked like, and since I didn't have a costume, I just wore a short black wig and '50s style dress. It was the music that sold the audience.
Since then, I have added many other characters to my repertoire, including Liza, Bette, Marilyn, Tina, Cher, and Dolly, which has have earned me invitations to cabarets, casinos and cruise ships around the globe. But Patsy is still my favourite. She's the only character in all my impersonations that I perform solo for an entire show. The rest are all vignettes.
Some people think that Patsy Cline only sang slow, sad songs-NOT TRUE- I promise this show will be far from boring!
I love interaction with the audience and the more connection, the better. When I do my big 14 character Vegas Meets Vaudeville Show it is mandatory and I bring people up to help me out as Dolly Parton, Marilyn Monroe and Cher. I play Patsy as one of the only serious characters in that show, but when I do the full Patsy tribute, I love to bring comedy to my show and they may not expect it, but I will also deliver the beautiful, vulnerable emotion of her music. I perform my Patsy show as if it's a very small town, and we all know each other, I start the show off with a song called, Come on In ...and sit right down and make yourself at home.
This Show has been in big demand lately. Last month I did a 3 shows weekend, starting in Edmonton, to Camrose to White Rock, I had to drive from the airport to the theatre.
It was an awesome weekend; the people were so reponsiveive and I love seeing the look of happiness and appreciation on their face.
In general with my Vegas impersonation show I have been called, part vaudevillian comic, torch singer, and sexy siren, all packed into a parade of parody. That's why I am often dubbed as a "Farce to be reckoned with
I worked on cruise ships starting in 1998 [just as a lounge singer at first] out of Vancouver to Alaska. I would add a feather boa to a number, then eventually a wig, peppering my act with characters, then in 2000 I quit ships to do acting and have a steady solid relationship. In 2003, my whole show was developed and my relationship ended and I went back to sea on a ship that went to South America and Antarctica (we even hit an iceberg but didn't sink!), After that five-month contract, I went to work on Seabourn Cruise lines only to fall madly in love with the captain and stayed out at sea fairly full-time till 2007, sailing mostly Central America, The Caribbean and extensively through the Mediterranean. It was a wonderful experience and my show grew and developed much more. I began using DVD clips in between my costume changes. I would shoot video of myself as the celebrity in the exotic places we would go and make comedy clips. I have a great one of Cher in Monte Carlo during the Grand Prix, another of Dolly Parton in the middle of the Tour de France, the Barbra Streisand at the Trevi fountain in Rome, Italy. I haven't made one for Patsy as I consider her the more serious part of my show. I save the humor for her live on stage. My show grew out of being tired of waiting for the phone to ring when I was in film and television. It was a wonderful discovery for me as it is truly an expression of who I am. The hard part is continuing to work steady. I have had a very amazing exciting roller coaster love life with more hurtful heartaches and breaks than I care to count, yet I really feel that the experience I have had helps me connect to every sad and beautiful lyric in Patsy Cline music. I make fun of the tragedy of losing love and being heartbroken, but make no mistake, when the song is sung, the tears will fall.
