Lucas Chaisson, a 20 year old from Cochrane, Alberta “is an honest and confident writer who isn’t afraid to tread familiar ground with new eyes. With refined finger picking and gently percussive strumming, Chaisson proves a striking command over the guitar for someone so young. Growing Pains, his latest release, has been getting attention across his home province of Alberta, and around the country. This was a great follow-up to his debut recording “No Loitering” and EP “A Far Cry From”. Both full length records received Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for “Young Performer of the Year”. And, in November 2012, Lucas became one of only seven Alberta artists to win a Canadian Folk Music Award. His music has received local and national airplay on stations such as CBC, CKUA (#8 spot June 2012) and CJSW and CJSR. Growing Pains also garnered the attention of commercial radio, with tracks in regular rotation on UP 97.7. Internationally, Lucas was declared a “must see” on the prestigious Folk DJ List at the 2012 International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis. He was one of 22 chosen to represent Alberta to the annual Conferences in Toronto 2013 and Kansas City in February 2014 both with Official Showcases. Again, he is invited as a part of the Alberta group to the 2015 Folk Alliance Conference in Kansas City. Lucas new record, produced by Colin Linden, is already creating a stir and will be released April 2, 2014 in Edmonton and April 10, 2014 in Calgary.
The strong song writing showcased on his studio recordings and ability to make an emotional connection with his audience has garnered him the opportunity to play high profile venues such as the Edmonton, Calgary, Canmore and Winnipeg Folk Festivals. These strong showings have also led to performances at The Epcor Center for the Performing Arts, The Arden Theatre and numerous Folk Clubs and soft seat venues across Western Canada.
