Bluegrass duo Moranz and Fremlin join up with singer/songwriter Allen Dobb to celebrate the release of their respective new albums Williwaw and The Afterlife Sessions. A dynamic Canadiana and bluegrass duo, multi-instrumentalist Ryland Moranz, and mandolin aficionado Dan Fremlin champion the love and spirit of a disappearing art and will be joined by accomplished singer-songwriter Allen Dobb for an evening of great acoustic tunes, tall tales, and community. Moranz and Fremlin
Like a summer wind’s last ride through falls first turn, Moranz & Fremlin are harbingers of a time on the verge. A dynamic Canadiana and bluegrass duo, multi-instrumentalist Ryland Moranz and mandolin aficionado Dan Fremlin champion the love and spirit to a disappearing art. Evoking a simpler ethos of string and timber; smoke and dew, joy, sorrow and the remembrance of all we hold most dear.
Ryland Moranz is an internationally touring singer-songwriter whose 2021 album XO, 1945 was nominated for Canadian folk music associations contemporary album of the year. In his spare time Ryland plays with Leeroy Stagger, the Lucky Ones, John Wort Hannam, Allen Dobb and more.
Dan Fremlin is an internationally acclaimed bluegrass mandolinist and songwriter from the Meadows, British Columbia. An integral member of the Blue Wranglers as well as a cherished collaborator with songwriter Allen Dobb and Barney Bentall’s Cariboo Express, Dan has the pedigree of one of Canada’s finest bluegrass pickers. Any time you hear outstanding mandolin, there’s a one in three chance that it’s Dan.
Formed in 2023, Moranz & Fremlin’s debut album “Williwaw” is a collection of original and traditional songs and instrumentals was released June 2026 on Tonic Records.
In 2025 Moranz & Fremlin toured Canada and Australia performing at the Cowichan Bluegrass festival (CAN), Dorrigo Bluegrass festival (AU), Soulfest, Waynestock (CAN), Majors Creek Folk Fest (AU), Mountaingrass Bluegrass Festival (AU) and more!
Allen Dobb
Allen Dobb is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose music blends country, folk, and roots traditions with a modern, literate edge. Praised by the Edmonton Journal as “one of the finest and most literate tunesmiths in this country,” Dobb crafts songs that resonate with authenticity and a deep sense of place.
Dobb has performed at major folk festivals including Edmonton, Winnipeg, Mariposa, and Bumbershoot, and toured the U.K. His albums—Horses and Hills, Bottomland, Rosetown, and Alone Together—have earned praise for their depth and authenticity. Americana Highways calls his songs “heart searching and touching, strong and vibrant.”
His latest release, The Afterlife Sessions (2026), recorded live at Vancouver’s Afterlife Studios, is an all-acoustic project featuring Dan Fremlin (mandolin), Ryland Moranz (banjo, guitar), Rob Becker (upright bass), and Trent Freeman (fiddle). “In a time when everyone is talking about AI in music, this project couldn’t be further away from that,” says Dobb. “We just put up the microphones and played.”
Allen Dobb’s music is steeped in lived experience. His melodic, soulful voice invites listeners into stories that feel both personal and universal. Whether reflecting on the beauty of the Fraser River grasslands or the resilience of the human spirit, Dobb’s songs offer a rare combination of lyrical depth and emotional honesty.
