Community Voices Needed for the Future of Port Alberni's Permanent Art Collection!

The Permanent Art Collection Committee at the Alberni Arts Council is hosting a community consultation evening on Monday, June 23rd at Char's Landing, and they want to hear from you! This event is designed to build an honest conversation and gather feedback from the community, whether you're a longtime champion of the arts or a curious newcomer.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, with the event beginning at 7pm. We will start the event with a formal presentation beginning promptly at 7:05 PM, with the committee sharing the work they've completed to date, walking attendees through the key considerations and the current context surrounding the collection. Then, we will move into a "World Café” style, where guests will be able to move around the room freely and engage with table discussions, reflective activities, and artistic prompts. The goal is to make space for every kind of voice: the ones that speak up easily, and the ones that rarely get the chance. You'll be able to contribute verbally, visually, creatively, or in writing.

Three possible future directions for the collection will be presented, giving the community a concrete foundation for informed dialogue and reflection. The committee has identified several clear purposes for this gathering. Beyond simply sharing information, they hope to collect meaningful community perspectives on stewardship, access, sustainability, cultural responsibility, and the long-term relationship between the collection and the people of this valley. The collection belongs to this community's history and where it goes next should reflect this community's values.
