The Wheat in the Barley @Char's
Port Alberni · Saturday August 31st, 7:30 p.m.

“The Wheat in the Barley” is a Celtic based multicultural multi instrumentalist folk band that has toured BC and Alberta extensively.

The group has shared the stage with Valdy at the Panorama Festival, the Paperboys at the Vancouver Celtic Festival and the Chieftains at the very first Surrey Fusion Festival.
The name of the group evokes the Ukrainian/Irish heritage of founder and leader Steve Gidora - acoustic guitar, mandolin, lead vocals. Other members Annie Brown fiddle, Mark Dowding flute, whistle, harmonica, sax, Victor Smith accordion, flute, whistle, percussion.

“The Wheat in the Barley” pulls together a lot of great influences into one package: Celtic, Slavic, French Canadian, South American and more.

A folk festival veteran Gary Cristall put it, they’ve been “messing with tradition for over a decade”. They deliver sizzling, innovative interpretations of traditional fiddle tunes with a slight touch of jazz, blues and funk.
They put on a show that’s as danceable as listenable.
