Sat, Jan 30th, 8-10pm, Concert – Boston’s Hoot & Holler West Coast Tour – Bluegrass / Old Time / Americana
They’re embarking on their second West Coast tour this winter as a fiddle and guitar duo that plays a mix of original and traditional American music with influences from folk, bluegrass, jazz and old-time music.
Fiddle-Guitar duo Hoot and Holler was born of a love of American folk music, nurtured in Boston's burgeoning string band scene, and inspired by the authenticity and enduring spirit of traditional Appalachian mountain music. Sometimes they draw influence from Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Their tender harmonizing and songwriting comes across as simple, honest, and fresh to the ears. They can also embody the essence of driving old time fiddle tunes: fast, shuffling, heavy foot stomping, and an impenetrable groove. Described as the perfect cross section of grit and technique, you can expect the full range of temperament from Amy Alvey (fiddle, vocals) and Mark Kilianski (guitar, vocals) in any given performance. Since its inception, Hoot and Holler has entertained audiences all over the country. Since 2013, they've joined the Massachusetts Walking Tour with Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards, where they annually hike 100 miles on Massachusetts trails to play free community concerts. With a 2014 EP, Nothing If Not Young, 2015 single "Is This Goodbye/Slow and Steady", and several regional tours under their belt, Hoot and Holler are set to embark on their second west coast tour. www.hootandhollermusic.com https://www.facebook.com/hootandhollermusic?fref=ts

HOOT AND HOLLER WINTER
TOUR
Boston's favorite old time duo Hoot and Holler is escaping the throes of the New
England winter for the second time, extending their reach from San Diego, CA to
Victoria BC. Amy Alvey (fiddle, vocals) and Mark Kilianski (guitar, vocals) present a
hearty dose of traditional songs and tunes on fiddle, guitar and banjo as well as original
songs and compositions. Their songwriting evokes a cross country road trip, sometimes
drawing from the sound scape of the dirgy Louisiana swamp to the stark and sparse
beauty of the Southwestern desert. This tour marks their return to the west coast after a
year spent gigging extensively in the Northeast, a summer tour with Toronto based
Hannah Shira Naiman, a scholarship this fall to study Cajun music at the Blackpot Camp,
and two singles just released in November 2015.
Amy and Mark, Berklee College of Music grads, are returning to promote these singles,
as well as debuting brand new material in addition to songs from their album released last
fall, “Nothing If Not Young”. Along this route, they will perform alongside some notable
talent such as Canadian darling Sarah Jane Scouten, Portland local Jack Dwyer,
“Lousiana famous” Cajun supergroup The Revelers, and Seattle’s own old time duo
Squirrel Butter. Whether they share the stage or by themselves, the performance will
be springloaded
with rare energy and exceptional musicality as they unleash their
best, and freshest works.
"Hoot and Holler delivers on their debut EP Nothing If Not Young . Grads of the Berklee
College of Music, Mark Kilianski and Amy Alvey not only have topnotchchops,
they've crafted a topnotch
sound that's pleasantly refreshing...The soundscapes are
rooted in OldTime
music but with a contemporary feel that keeps the songs fresh and
exciting. In short, this is happy music played by happy people with feeling." Brad
