"The Bread of Life exists to serve the needs of the poor and the homeless, treating all people with dignity and respect. To encourage people, to help facilitate their social, personal and spiritual growth.”

The Bread of Life was started in 1983. It is a charitable organization whose Board of Directors is comprised primarily of representatives from the Churches in the Alberni Valley.

We provide a light breakfast 8:30am-10:30am and a hot meal 11:30am-Noon 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. We are serving approximately 80 guests each day. Emergency food hampers, personal items, baby supplies, formula, diapers and Ensure/meal supplements supplied when available.

A Health Clinic staffed with VIHA and Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council nurses are held three days a week, Monday-Wednesday-Friday and there is a doctor in house one day a week on most Fridays. Blood screening, seasonal shots, pregnancy tests, examinations are only some of the services provided.

The CornerStones Thrift Store caters to low-income families with exceptional prices and deals on gently  used second hand items. It provides free emergency clothing, homeless supplies and baby items when needed.

The Bread of Life Society has no income, no government funding. We receive a grant in aid assistance from the City for garbage and water fees. Our sole source of income is YOU the business’s, local individuals, friends of friends and distant family of the people of the City of Port Alberni. Our income and survival depends on donations. Thank-You Port Alberni
