“Papa” King Cole is a solid, hard-working Albertan, who has supported his family as a class 1 truck driver by day and singer/songwriter musician by night.

His music and songs reflect the life he lives and observes.
Driven with love and passion, this is music for all ages.

Multi talented man, playing drums with his feet while singing and playing guitar, and leading the band. Not a small task!
His original songs all engage with his audiences, and they leave with a good taste in their soul.

High energy, but not a nervous energy, this act can play anywhere from festivals to juke joints.
– Harpdog Brown

Papa King & the Boogiemen range in size from a duo to a 5 piece. The energy that fills the room when this band turns on can be compared to a hot 1950’s night on Westside Chicago or a stroll down Beale Street in the 30’s.

We invite you all to come out and experience this energetic band in action.

Tony McBride: drums
Ken Hartman: bass
Daryll Duus: guitar

Daryll Duus & Papa King are both brothers from another mother and have been playing together for 25 years:
Daryll began his pursuit of musical enjoyment around 1983 when he was 13 years old. Initially he focused on heavy metal and hard rock and by 16 was playing lead guitar in a Metallica cover band.
It was on a late night Greyhound ride on his 19th birthday and Daryll had fallen asleep with Hendrix playing on his walkman, that's when he first "really heard the Blues," Jimi playing Redhouse. That moment shaped Daryll's musical path, Jimi was the gateway drug! This opened the door to Robert Johnson and the first generations of great Blues/Soul musicians. By this time SRV was huge and Stevie proved to be a big source of inspiration on the 19yr old Duus. It was also around then that he found his first regular bar band gig in the Okanagan playing bass guitar with Rick Zipp in Rick's band Wheelhouse.
Daryll relocated to Alberta in the mid 90's and met his most excellent musical pal Papa King Cole and helped King form the first incarnation of Papa King and the Boogiemen. Playing lead guitar, slide, harmonica and singing backup 25 years later Daryll and Papa King are still playing shows together regularly.

Daryll moved to Vancouver Island in 2013 and has been burning up his guitars and making friends up and down the Island ever since. A carpenter by day and ever the experimenter, Mr. Duus builds the cigar box guitars he plays in all his shows. Daryll also has a collection of badass old Sears catalog guitars and amps in his pool of musical tools.
Over the years Daryll has played with and opened for many musical greats such as Magic Slim, Gay Delorme, Johnny V, Jack Velker, Colin Linden, David Gogo etc.
Daryll loves the camaraderie that the stage forges among players, so when you see him play he's playing with his friends.
Bluesy, Funky, Rockin, Jazzy and all the lines in between, all served up with a heaping helping of high energy, edgy attack and growley whiskey and cigar smoked vocals .... Enjoy
Mr. Duus has a sound like brown sugar and sand ~ mixed ~ Gritty but earthly sweet.
