When someone talks about “West Coast Cool Jazz,” they’re almost invariably referring to a style performed by jazz musicians in California (and primarily in Los Angeles) in the 1950’s and early 1960’s – as opposed to the hard-bop sound dominant on the East Coast during that time. Generally, the West Coast Sound was a bit mellower and more lyrical. Well-known musicians of the era include the likes of Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan, Shorty Rogers to name a few. Tonight we present an array of standards and compositions favored by jazz musicians during that era.

 

 

With regular bassist Wally Petersen on holiday, our guitarist Doug Gretsinger switches to the electric bass for Jazz@Chars . The music is ongoing from 6pm-8pm. Doors open at 5pm. A voluntary suggested gratuity of $15 (Seniors/Students) $20 (Adults) is appreciated. Attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks or supper. The beverage bar is open.
