BOOK LAUNCH
Join in the gallery Saturday November 14th from 1-3 pm to help celebrate Karen Poirier’s launch of her new books,
"Across a Prairie Sky" is a fictionalized story that was inspired by stories told to me by Karen’s mother about life on the prairies when she was growing up. Not only is it a portrait of family life during the the Great Depression but it is also a piece of Canadian history with the many details of farm life in rural Canada at that time. The story... is seen through the eyes of 14 year old Ellen who in spite of dreaming of faraway places and adventures learns that her roots are firmly planted with her family and the rich texture of the home life she was raised in.
"Ronald and Donald" is a children's book written in rhyme and illustrated by Karen. It's about two cats, brothers, that live together on a small farm. Ronald decides that it looks like more fun down the road than at home. He soon gets lost and into trouble and through his adventure he discovers that home with his brother is the best place for him to be. This story is about cherishing and loving family and home.
Karen will be doing some readings, possibly from both books. Karen will also be giving away a signed copy of Ronald and Donald to the first three children (one per family) 7 years and under to come to the launch to hear the readings.
