On Sunday, June 7th, the West Coast Dragon Boat Society will again play host to the Sproat Lake Ladies Regatta.  The host teams are the Die-Hard Dragons and the Ladies of the Lake.  This year, we have an overwhelming 15 teams in the Ladies Regatta coming from all over the island.  The event is being held at the Sproat Lake Provincial Park Boat Launch and activities begin at 8:45, when the teams are brought onto the race site by bagpipes. The first race of the day is scheduled for 9:30 and the event is generally over around 2:30. 
This event is a great spectator sport.  Grab the kids and lawn chairs and come on out for the day.  Each year a theme is chosen; the teams dress up and decorate their tents according to the theme.  This year’s theme is Disney….so find your Mickey Mouse Ears and come out for a day of fun and sun.  Coffee will be available for purchase on race day and there are well-maintained washrooms on-site. 
The West Coast Dragon Boat Society is a non-profit organization that could not make such an event happen without the help of endless volunteers.  If this is an activity you might be interested in trying out, please come out and see what we are all about.  Dragon Boating is open to men and women of all ages.
