Some Yuletide Events

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is reviving the “Light Up the Night Christmas Decorating Contest! Any business or residence that would like to take part can register at our office by calling 724 6535. There will be first, second and third place winners in each category and some nice prizes for each. Judging night will be Thursday Dec.13th with the winners to be announced shortly afterwards. We would like to develop a community map highlighting all the decorated residences and businesses so folks can take the tour as well.
A whole number of organizations are working together to put on a real show on Saturday, Dec.1st. It’s the Rotary Arts District Light Up Your HeARTS event. Action starts at 3pm at the Rollin Art Centre where they will have literally hundreds of school kids performing along with choirs and they will carry on until 7pm. The uptown and Harbour Quay merchants will light up the night from 5 – 7pm. Mayor Douglas, Jody McMullan (the Peak) and Nancy Wilmot (Shaw TV) will be the light up judges. Folks are invited to join in the street carolling and captains are invited to decorate their boats and sail past the Quay from 5 ‘till 7.
The McLean Mill Christmas Village Craft Fair and Christmas Lights Display goes Nov.30th, Dec.1 & 2. The BC Children’s Hospital 4th Annual Festival of Trees is on display in the Barclay Hotel lobby through Jan.6th. The Kuu-us Crisis Line 14th annual Festival of Trees goes Dec.7th to 15th at their Johnston and Adelaide site. On Dec.15th the Maritime Heritage group will host their annual Lighthouse Christmas from 1 ‘till 4 with Santa arriving by boat and lots of entertainment. The popular West Coast Winter Wonderland at the Multiplex is scheduled for Dec. 10th to Dec.27th. Last but certainly not least, it’s the Elderly Brothers live at the Bavarian Centre New Year’s Eve. The Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas Open House for directors, members and invitees takes place from 4 to 7pm Friday, Dec.21st. Our January 9th Networking Luncheon at the Barclay will feature Russell Dyson, Chief Administration Officer of Alberni Clayoquot Regional District speaking about future plans of the Regional District.
