Jessica Watson, an Australian 16 year old, sailed around the world, solo. It took her 7 months. We are ready for another dream in Port Alberni. I like making dreams that are not exclusive. How many of us are not into fishing!
How about the ULTIMATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY COMMUNITY? Now here is a challenge that every one of us can take an active part. Think of Remembrance Day. Think of the sacrifices that these men and women have undergone so that we may live free. That torch has been handed to us, and let us take it and make Port Alberni a city that cares for all our neighbours. In December, we will be discussing the topic: GIVING! We all have something to give to this community. I know that there are many who spend a lot of time volunteering, but I am sure that there are a few who are still waiting to make a contribution.
I am particularly interested in the future - our youths. Let us all work together to encourage these young people to think of others. We would like to see not only good students graduating from our schools, but also good people. We must develop the soul, the mind, and the body. In most industries, they have research and development activities going on. They have to be ahead of their competitors, and so it is imperative to be on continuous growth. The schools are taking care of the mental growth, so it is up to the community to make sure of the spiritual and moral development of our youth. You are part of the research and development department in the development of total development of young people.
Could you think of a better activity in which to be involved? I thank Houle Publishing for listening to my ideas and giving me free a number of Positive Port Commitment sheets to be distributed to all the citizens of Port Alberni. Do show the same enthusiasm you show for fishing and sports. Just think of the legacy we would leave if we could make Social Development a way of life, not only with the adults, but also with our children.
I am sure when the founder of Christianity spoke about loving one another, many people thought that this was a pipe dream, but look what has happened 2,000 years later! They started pointing at the Christians, and said: Behold how they love one another! This could be said of the people of Port Alberni. BEHOLD, HOW THEY CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER!
