PAPA Slams a Home Run

The Port Alberni Port Authority slammed a home run with the new breakwater float off Harbour Quay. My family spent some time on the holiday Monday walking the float and enjoying the views from a totally different perspective. I can see this new addition becoming immensely popular for sightseeing, photography and even sport fishing. In time, it would be great to add some benches so folks can spend some time comfortably taking in the harbour action - maybe even getting Art Wynans to custom build some recliners with rod holders attached!
While we’re talking Port Authority, we noticed a letter to the editor from a sport fisher commenting on the removal of the float in Hook Bay, on the inlet, just this side of Nahmint. The float had seen better days and needed to be removed for obvious liability reasons. It’s scheduled to be replaced when another becomes available within the Port Authority system. However, as the letter pointed out, this float was an important safety valve for boaters who get caught in the almost daily Nahmint blow and have to seek out a safe refuge until the wind dies down. For safety sake, we hope another float becomes available before the busy boating season starts up next spring.
