The Holland America Line cruise vessel, Amsterdam, will be paying us another visit this spring. On their popular Pacific Northwest cruise the Amsterdam will be in Port Alberni Wednesday, May 22nd. The ship will be at anchor and tender boats will shuttle passengers, presumably, to the new breakwater at Harbour Quay. Meetings will be getting underway soon to lay out a plan to welcome the passengers and crew to our fair city. This will be the second time the Amsterdam has chosen Port Alberni as a port of call. We have been visited by HAL’s cruise ship the Statendam previously, as well as a couple of visits by The World.
Businesses in and around the up-town sector can expect a call from the Economic Development office (if you haven’t already received one) to arrange for an interview. Incoming chamber executive director, Bill Collette, will be conducting the questionnaire, which is focused on business retention in town. Bill has been on the road for over a week now conducting the survey and the results to-date are most interesting. When the survey is completed at the end of February, all the data will be entered into specialized software and then analysed. In the meantime, those businesses that have specific issues that need to address in the short term, will have their issues forwarded immediately to the appropriate group or organization for action.
The chamber’s February Networking Luncheon will be the official introduction of new executive director, Bill Collette. He will be introducing himself, presenting his ideas about the future of the chamber and sharing some information he has gathered during the business retention interviews. The luncheon will take place at noon, Wednesday, February 13th at the Best Western Barclay Hotel. Make your reservation by calling our office at 724-6535.
Thought for the Week:
