Positive community leadership is an approach which brought me into the realm of local government five years ago.
It’s been my observation that some leaders have practiced the approach that the way to a successful, prosperous future is through a negative ‘slash and burn’ technique, focused more on reacting to issues instead of fostering opportunities. I believe that the future community which most of us value and desire will be achieved by taking a positive approach instead.
Stemming from this viewpoint, I see opportunities coming from maintaining our municipal core services; creating more options when it comes to healthcare and education; beautifying our surroundings; encouraging innovative and diverse economic initiatives, and responsibly investing in areas that move us towards our vision. We have much to be proud of and we need to share our story and civic pride with the rest of the world.
There are still a few who think opportunity will come to us unbidden, that all we have to do is sit back and wait for the next success to come along, and bicker and complain while we are at it.
There are many more, however, who will choose to move forward in a positive fashion by utilizing the tremendous attributes we have to create an environment for new jobs, healthy housing and new businesses.
