After thirty great years of guiding our heritage network in the Alberni Valley, Alberni Valley Museum director, Jean McIntosh, will be minding the farm and navigating the night seas. Jean will be dearly missed as she was the consummate professional, a “doer” and a team builder. The appointment of Dr. Jamie Morton to replace Jean is certainly Port Alberni’s gain. I had the honour of co-chairing the Heritage Commission with Jamie a few years back and I am totally convinced that he will be the perfect person for the job. His knowledge, background and easy demeanor will help make the changeover as seamless as possible. The Chamber of Commerce looks forward to working closely with Jamie and the museum staff come early April.
Our nest chamber networking event will be a dinner at the Alberni Golf Club. Our guest speaker following the networking session and supper will be BC Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, Pat Bell. The affable, out-going Prince George MLA is always an interesting speaker and since the event is being staged at the golf club, there will be much interest in attending and somewhat limited seating. The dinner will start at 5:30pm and it takes place on the first day of spring, Wednesday, March 20th. For reservations call our office at 724 6535.
The deadline for nominations for the Community Excellence Awards Dinner is approaching. Friday, March 15th is the last day we will accept nominations for the various categories so we can hand off the names to our selection committee for short listing the finalists. The actual dinner will take place on Thursday, April 18th at the Best Western Barclay Hotel. To nominate a person or business, simply log on to our website (avcoc.com) and click on Excellence Awards. There you will find the list of categories and the new, simplifies nomination form.
