Become a Chamber Director

The Chamber of Commerce is tasked with being the voice of business in the community, driven by business leaders who want to make the Alberni Valley a good place in which to do business. If this kind of mandate interests you, consider becoming a board member at our AGM on the 9th at Chances Rimrock Gaming Centre. We will conduct an election of officers, complete some housekeeping duties and hear from Tom McEvay regarding the movement to purchase the Bulldogs locally. The Chamber will also roll out the plans for an on-going “Shop Alberni” campaign which will get under way in June. If you have fresh ideas and a little bit of spare time, the Chamber is looking for a few good folks to make up a strong board.
Speaking of the Bulldogs local purchase plan, we would like to challenge other business-minded groups to coordinate fundraising within their respective organizations and make a donation towards keeping the Bulldogs in the valley. Whether your business benefits directly or indirectly from the positive economic and promotional spinoffs created by the local team, the donation will go a long ways in the strategic plan to keep the team in the Multiplex. Businesses that get a donation together through staff and management can benefit from a media “Kodak moment”. Just call the chamber and we’ll arrange the photo shoot.
Expect to see some amazing vintage cars rolling through town on Saturday and Sunday, May 12th and 13th. Some 200 old beauties will be touring Port Alberni as part of the Nanaimo Vintage Car Club’s mid island cruise. You will be able to see the cars at the train station and at the McLean Mill both days.
Two events to bring to your attention coming up in June: our monthly Networking Luncheon will feature Compliance Coal CEO, John Tapics. That will take place at noon, June 13th at the Barclay. And, here’s one for your bucket list – we’re sponsoring a travelogue evening focused on cruising down the Danube and canals from Amsterdam to Budapest. The travelogue evening is scheduled for 7pm, June 26th in our boardroom. Everyone is welcome, but you should pre-register by calling Twin Travel at 724 6501. Let’s get a whole group of Port Albernians together for a planned September of 2013 trip of a lifetime!
