Another Day in Paradise!

WELCOME TO ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE!
That is a greeting that I received from a man as I was on my way to Echo centre! There was no prompting from me. Let us forget about Money Sense for the time being. Let us concentrate on our own criteria. I was told recently that the most important things in life are not THINGS!! Let us continue to work on these things that are most important in our lives. Enough energy has been spent with this negative image of this community. Now is the time to get up and show the world that we are living in one of the greatest places on earth.
This year the theme for Folkfest is Celebrating our Goals. What goals are you celebrating? You and I can make Port Alberni the best place on earth, here and now. It has been said that every moment, we can change, and all it takes is a conscious choice here and now. Let us then be up and doing! I put before you a Port Alberni Pledge for us to sign. “In my little way, I will do the following five things to transform Port Alberni each moment of my life.” Are you ready to make this pledge? Remember it was Kennedy, who said, ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for the country. I take over this sentence for Positive Port! What can you do for this community?
It has been said that two men look out from prison bars; one saw mud while the other saw stars. We are not denying that mud exists. Let us walk through the mud while looking at the stars. You and I live here. We have an obligation to make it the best place on earth. Again, as we approach July 1st, let us rededicate our lives to this community!
PaGo Grannies than you for the huge turn out at the recent textile exhibit at Echo Centre. We were given the opportunity of showing it here, and although we did not have all the information, we decided to take the plunge. For those of you who missed it, you can have another opportunity to view at at many other parts of the island. As the only Grand-pa in this group, I am given the privilege of seeing these enthusiastic grannies work! At every meeting there is great enthusiasm. When I am in this group, I have great hope for this world. Here are these ladies, giving so much time and effort in helping the grand mothers of Africa to raise their children! Thanks for the many people who have decided to be members in the future.
The PaGo Grannies will again be taking part in the July 1st parade. Look out for them. They will be bringing along children and grandchildren. Their garage sale made $1409.51! Thanks to all those who contributed. We look forward to seeing you next year Look out for us on June 11th and 12th. This is our annual Tag Day! They are also getting ready for the Salmon Festival. This is a different breed of grand-mas! I catch their spirit, and you too, will catch it..Come and join us!
FOLKFEST IS COMING!
Thanks for all those who will e attending this parade. The theme is. CELEBRATING OUR GOALS!
There will be a free Pancake Breakfast from 8a.m to 10 a.m sponsored by West Coast Aquatic at 10th and Roger! A reminder that the parade begins at 10 a.m... There will be Food Fair and entertainment at Glenwood centre following the parade. Come and celebrate our National Birthday. Do you know that this little dedicated group will be meeting weekly during this month? Here is my reason for thinking we live in the best place on earth. IT IS YOU—THE PEOPLE!! Thanks.
SPECIAL THANKS TO THE A.V.LIONS!
They supported the Heritage Fair, and contributed $1,000.00. Not only that, many of the members participated as judges and organizers of this competition. They have been giving Folkfest $500.00 annually for the purchase of their insurance, this year I approached them to assist this group with $1,000.00, and they did. There are seven members in this group, and they do not have the time to spend on raising funds. We thank you Lions! That is not all. The Lions will be helping in the transportation of the Canada cake donated by Safeway. This is a big job. They have volunteered to distribute this cake on July 1st! When I am rhapsodic about this place is because of the groups to which I belong. I am in touch with the finest people on this earth. It is paradise on earth here and now. Talk about Patriotism, the Lions have been running Project Pride for over 10 years. We will be visiting all the grade one classes during this month and presenting the students with certificates and a flags! The cost of this project..$440.00. Let us have a roar for our Lions.. ROAR! ROAR!! ROAR!!!
FOOD AND FILOSOPHY…
Monday, June 7th at 5:30..Come and join our debate. RESOLVED: THAT PORT ALBERNI IS THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE! Are you for or against this resolution? Come and join us. Following this debate, we will be suggesting topics for the coming year. What a way to spend an evening! ALL ARE INVITED! We are an inclusive group.
QUOTE FROM Martin Luther King Jr:
IF A MAN IS CHOSEN TO BE A STREET SWEEPER, HE SHOULD SWEEP THE STREET EVEN AS MICHAELANGELO PAINTED, EVEN AS BEETHOVEN COMPOSED MUSIC, EVEN AS SHAKESPEARE WORTE POETRY. HE SHOULD SWEEP THE STREET SO CLEAN, THAN ALL THE HEAVENLY HOST WILL PAUSE AND SAY: THIS WAS A STREETSWEEPER WHO DID HIS JOB WELL…MAY THIS BE SAID OF US ALL AS WE SHARE OUR LIVES WITH OTHERS IN POSITIVE PORT!
